Oh blimey!

You see this is the reason why I don't make hasty New Years resolutions that I won't be able to keep! Just 4 months into the year and already it's getting away from me! All my good intentions of keeping this blog up to date go out the window as 'Molly the vacuum of free-time' seems to completely take over. I keep asking myself who's in charge here? Of course Molly keeps telling me 'me, of course, God Mummy you are daft!', that kind of thing.

Anyway, what's new with us? Where to start...

OK, I can no longer swear out loud. As some of you know, on a good day I can curse as well as, if not better then, your average sailor. But since our wee girl seems to be part angel part parrot, those days are gone. We walked around the grocery store last week with Molly loudly proclaiming alternately 'blimey!' and 'wow!', not too terrible I know and it could have been an awful lot worse eh. We won't go into the whole 'bugger' incident, I'm just glad that her Daddy and I managed to avoid eye contact for the entire time otherwise both of us would have lost it and that would now be her favourite word.

As it is, I would say her favourites at the moment are 'wow', closely followed by 'what happened?' (accompanied by lifted shoulders and wide eyes, very cute - even after she's made whatever happened happen) and then of course 'NO'.

We definitely have a terrible-almost-two year old on our hands at times now. I don't think she's being intentionally vile (please God!), but sometimes I just feel like banging my head against a brick wall - partly because I know it will be less painful then, say, putting her shoes on to go out, or persuading her to eat her tea... this passes right? I asked a girlfriend that very question recently, she said yes of course, when they leave home, boom boom - groan.

Easter has worked it's magic on our Molly and she now worships at the temple of chocolate (I'm secretly glad, sometimes it gets lonely there all on your own!). Everytime I go to the fridge now a little head appears under the door. 'Chotlat?'. She sounds so cute when she says it, it's hard to resist her. We're trying to ration her to two pieces a day and hoping that her addiction is short lived (unlike mine). By the way the picture is of a very sleepy, bedtime Molly, modelling her Easter present from Nana.

Unbelievably though, the more chocolate she eats the more food in general she eats, this can't be bad. I just wish it would help her to sleep just a wee bit longer in the mornings. She still waking way too early for our liking. To give you a clue it's 06.10 Sunday morning, I'm writing this blog entry longhand (too early to face the computer just yet), I've put a load of laundry on, had a large cup of coffee - large milk for Moo - she's already dressed and eating a bunch of grapes (her pre-breakfast snack) and doing some drawing. But hey, she'll grow out of it, eventually, and I am really looking forward to her teenage years when I can be inordinately cruel in dragging her lazy arse out of bed... well, whatever gets you through eh?!.

I have however taken back my afternoon naps to deal with this. Molly sleeps so much better when I sleep with her (who cares if it's a bad habit to get into, I need the sleep too so no harm done). So we regularly snuggle up for a 2 or 3 hour nap in the afternoons, aaaah, bliss. I hope she keeps this up until she goes to school.

Luckily, Molly is getting really good at entertaining herself now - at least for short periods anyway - so I'm just about managing to keep the house from falling apart around our ears and nap too. But sometimes she can be so funny when I'm busy. The other day I was making lemon curd - still working our way through a glut of lemons this year, and they're still coming - she came stomping into the kitchen with her hands on her hips and said 'you finished?', those were the words, but the look on her face was 'for God's sake woman, how long does it take?', but that will come soon, I'm sure of it.

Right better stop, need another coffee, well it is 06.30!
