Chas and Dave

Aren't they just beautiful! Long time coming, I know, but about time you all got to meet them.

Chas (the girl, short for Charlotte) is my favourite, she is very friendly and just cluck clucks when you stroke her.

Dave, on the other hand, is so bloody loud it's untrue. We were told bantams were not to noisy as long as you don't have lots of males together. Well he's our only male but I think he may be signalling to his old buddies in Rakaia that the coast is clear... who knows how long he has until the neighbours kick off and he's prepared for the freezer (no kidding, hubby reckons he can do it, pah! killing, plucking and gutting chickens is a bit more tricky - and messy - then knocking up a chicken coop. He did an absolutey fab job on it though, what a star he is. It's not a coop, it a chicken palace!)

Anyway, as my father-in-law says you can't eat anything that has a name. And Molly would be heartbroken, the first thing we do every morning is open her bedroom curtains and say good morning chooks. Funnily enough, Dave always says hello back.

By the way, the original Chas n Dave look like this. And no, I don't really know why we chose these names, but it suits them now... luverly, oi, oi, oi!

Long time, no news...

I was going to start with another lame apology for my lack of 'blogging', but I'm giving that up, it's boring and I've started the last three or four entries with the same thing... so from now on, I will just try to be a bit more regular.

OK, so, latest pic of our gorgeous girl. She's such a little character at the moment. We took her to Port Levy today - it was beautiful this morning, felt almost like Spring - and she was picking up clams or pippy shells (or something, my marine ecology knowledge is not what it was!) breaking them apart and then saying 'oh no, what happened! they broke!'. Daddy caught this photo mid-exclamation, very cute.

She's a been off and on poorly now for a couple of weeks, a bout of strep throat, swiftly followed by gluey eyes and high temperature, so we've had a fairly trying time for a wee while now. Please let this be her last illness for at least a couple of weeks, we all need some sleep!
